Symptoms and Treatments of Vaginal Candidiasis
Vaginal candidiasis is also commonly known as thrush or a vaginal yeast infection. It is one of
the most common infections that a woman will get – and around 75% of women will get it at least
once in their lifetime. There are some very common symptoms to look out for but the good news is
that there are treatments available too.
The Symptoms of Vaginal Candidiasis
Like anything, the symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection will differ from woman to woman; some
will be more prone to certain symptoms and less prone to others. However, it is very important to
look out for each of these.
The most common issue is the itchiness that is experienced around the vaginal
area and sometimes inside it. This will commonly start in one area and will spread over the whole
area. A discharge is also extremely common with the itchiness but the discharge will be thick,
white and commonly have a strange, fishy smell to it.
Pain while urinating is sometimes experienced and this pain is often noted as a
burning sensation. Other women may experience paid while having intercourse.
Most of the time, these symptoms are very minor but there are some more serious and possibly
life-threatening symptoms. Bleeding during pregnancy is just one of those serious
symptoms to look out for, but you should also look out for a high temperature, chest pains
or pain in the abdomen or pelvis. These commonly occur due to the infection passing into
the blood.
Treatments for the Yeast Infection
The good news is that there are ways to treat vaginal candidiasis and there are also ways to
soothe the symptoms. The first thing to point out is that this infection is a yeast infection, also
commonly known as a fungal infection. This means that anti-fungal treatments are needed to
combat the infection. There are a number of over-the-counter products to help with
treating the yeast infection but you may need to talk to your doctor for something stronger if the
infection does not go away after a week or two.
While getting treatment for the vaginal
candidiasis, you will also want to soothe the symptoms. Most of the creams will offer a way to
cool the burning and itching sensation but you cannot put it on all of the day.
One of the popular methods to soothe the sensations is to sit in a warm bath.
The water will help to soothe the burning and itching rather easily. Wearing clothes that are loose
will also help, because they will make it easier for your skin to breathe.
Avoid the Infection
There are some things that you can do to avoid getting vaginal candidiasis in the first place.
The first is to keep your vaginal area clean and dry all the time. The fungus that
causes the problem will grow in warm and damp areas. You may also want to look at getting
cotton underwear and wear pads instead of tampons.
